Your Review: The first thing I noticed as I walked through the door were
the smiles on the faces of the staff as they buzzed around the restaurant
catering to the needs of each diner. Their infectiously sincere and open
Californian friendliness even had me grinning by the time I was seated by
a huge window looking out over the Pacific Ocean. I still can't understand
how you Californians have such amazing food over here at such low prices
but as a self proclaimed epicurean, I was not about to question it too loudly.
I ordered the Calamari for a starter, with its wicked spicy dipping sauce,
and the sublime Coconut Shrimp for my main meal. A nice chilled bottle of
Californian Chardonnay complemented the food perfectly. I was in tastebud
heaven! Later, my meal relished, I was still so inspired by the amazing
view of the sun setting over Dana Point Harbor, that I struck up a conversation
with the new "Guvnor" Mark Anderson. Mark is an affable Yorkshireman and
has that typical dry northern english sense of humour. I thanked him for
such a complete evening and he cordially invited me back to the "JR" before
I return to Australia. He suggested the upstairs bar for a quiet drink or
maybe to party on to live music in the weekend sunshine, out on the patio.
It makes me smile when I see people flock to an imitation Australian restaurant
chain that I have seen here. May I humbly suggest that you look no further
than this phenomenal local restaurant with it's idyllic location. Go and
say "g'day" to Mark Anderson. I'm sure he'll have a warm welcome waiting
for you.
