Your Review: The Mission Viejo (MV) Claim Jumper opened in 1997. Claim Jumper is known for
its very large portions of good food, with an old mining town atmosphere.
The MV location is not quite as large as some of the other locations in Orange County, but
their famous salad bar area is the same size as most other sites. I would like to see the
saloon expanded, as it is always overflowing with people during weekend dinner hours. They
have many beers on tap, and carry a large assortment of micro-brews.
Dinner entrees are very generous. You can't go wrong with the ribs or any of their daily
fresh fish selections. The pot pie is also good, as well as their steaks and chicken
dishes. All dinners come with the following:
- choice of large, freshly baked muffin or cheese toast
- the largest baked potato you'll ever see
- fresh fruit
Desserts are awesome, with the portions as large as their dinner entrees. For example, a
family of four could easily share one slice of the chocolate cake!
The Claim Jumper does NOT accept reservations, which can leave you standing outside the
front door for up to two (2) hours on a Friday or Saturday night. My recommendation is to
get there before 5:30 if you want a place to sit in the bar, or eat within 30 minutes.
