Attractions,
Entertainment, and Points of Interests
HISTORY Placentia is translated from Latin and means "a
pleasant place." An apt name when at the turn of the century this community was
mostly just orange groves. A wide array of immigrants--German, Italian, French, English,
Polish, Basque, Irish, Canadian and South American, brought diversity to this area. George
Hinde, a pioneer, formed a spiritual colony call Societas Fraterna, where the members were
vegetarian, getting a head start on a trend that became popular later in California
History. The orange growers got together in the early 1900's to establish a railroad
station for shipping out their crop, and soon the town of Placentia was established and
took shape. It became a city in 1926. Oil changed the charactor of Placentia, when the
largest "gusher" was found in 1921.
