Heritage Hill, which was the county's first historical park, brings together four buildings from different eras in Saddleback Valley history. It is a good place to get a feeling for the history of the town.

The El Toro Grammar School is a one-room school house built in 1890 and used for grades 1 through 8 until 1914. The school was then used for a Catholic Church until 1968. Eventually it was donated to the county and relocated here. From time to time local children from the schools in the area get to hold class here and get a feeling for what it was like to be in school in that era, even playing games that children of that time period would have played.

The Serrano Adobe is the star of this park--the only surviving adobe from the Rancho Canada De Los Aliso of Don Jose Serrano. It is believed to have been constructed around 1863. The Serrano family raised cattle on their rancho, but after a series of droughts their financial fortunes took a turn for the worse and they were forced to sell sections of their land. The Whiting family bought the adobe in 1884 , and in 1932 expanded it to its present size.

The last remaining ranch house from the turn of the century in El Toro is the Bennett Ranch House, built in 1908 by the Bennett family, who were citrus pioneers. This structure is typical of the period. There is a coach house with a carriage and other pictures and possessions from local families of the area, along with a prerecorded message that tells you about the history of these families. Near here in the grave yard off Trabuco and El Toro Rd you will find grave stones from the 1800's of many of the families that are discussed here.

The fourth structure is St George's Episcopal Mission, dating from 1891. When English settlers came to El Toro to grow fruit, this was their house of worship. Many of the interior furnishings, including an oak baptismal font, are original.
