Directions: Just south of the Campus-Jamboree intersection--look for a
small service road. Watch for a banner that says UCI Arboretum.
This campus arboretum is dedicated to preserving endangered plants
around the globe.
TURTLE ROCK NATURE CENTER

pm You may see some wild animals as you stroll along the paths of this
little park. Inside the Nature Center are snakes, raccoons, and turtles
on display at eye level for youngsters. Exhibits are informative, and
illustrate how we can protect the environment.
ORANGE COAST SHOOTING AND TRAINING CENTER

Hours: Wednesday through Thursday 12pm to 12 am. Saturday and Sunday 9am
to 5 pm Fees: $5.50 for non-members; lessons on Fridays by appointment
only $50 per hr plus the cost of targets.
Here in the foothills of Irvine you can take aim and shoot at Orange
Coast Shooting and Training Center.

A day use park near the UCI campus. Mason Regional park has a nice lake
with ducks. Barbecue fire rings and playground equipment make it a good
place for a picnic stop. There are bicycle trails, fitness parcourse trails
where you can jog and stop and exercise, a Frisbee golf course, horseshoe
pits and volleyball courts. Hobbyists use the lake to sail their model
sailboats. There is also a nature trail and interpretive programs.

The three day event has several booths that radiate around its perimeter.
Several sound stages feature rock, country, reggae and jazz bands that
entertain the thousands of residents who come to sample cuisine from dozens
of Orange County's favorite restaurants. Wine tasting and a special entertainment
area reserved for children are popular features.

Directions: I-5, Exit Sand Canyon--on the western edge of the Santa Ana
Freeway This long block of restored buildings includes a general store
and a blacksmith's shop. They have been converted into a restaurant and
hotel, but the tenants were not allowed to change the structure of the
buildings, so you can still enjoy their appearance by driving by or dining
here.

the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway The community art gallery is located on the
grounds of Heritage Park. It has rotating exhibits of paintings and sculptures
that are changed every two months. Many programs are offered for children.

IRVINE MUSEUM

Directions: On the 12th floor of an Irvine office Building.
This is the first among California Museums. The art subject matter is
known as California Impressionist. The paintings are from the collection
of Joan Irvine Smith, who had acquired more than 2,000 such paintings.
Most of these works, which date back between 1890 and 1930, depict California
inspired land and seascapes. The exhibit includes paintings by such notable
artist as Granville Redmond, Guy Rose and William Wendt.
California impressionist paintings are highly environmental in theme and
mood. Smith wants her collection to foster a greater understanding between
those people who are devoted to land development and those who are concerned
with the environmental toll of more development in Orange County.
SEVERIN WUNDERMAN MUSEUM

Directions: Take the Santa Ana Freeway(I-5) to Alton Parkway and head
east. Turn right at Muirlands and look for a white two story building
with the name "Severin Group" on the outside.
The largest collection of art by French Multi-media Artist Jean Cacteau
(1889-`963). Drawings, tapestries, ceramics and masks are on display here.
There is also a memorabilia collection devoted to the famous actress Sarah
Bernhardt.
IRVINE HISTORICAL MUSEUM

Directions: Take San Diego Freeway (I-405) to the Culver Drive offramp
and turn south. The museum is near the San Joaquin Golf Course.
Built in 1877, this is the city's oldest stand structure. Its original
function was as the cookhouse for the Irvine Ranch cattle camp. It now
houses a one-room museum featuring exhibits on the history of Irvine Ranch.
Antique farm equipment is on display, and there is a dress up area for
children.

This is Orange County's only water park. Here is where you can plummet
down fast chutes of water and fling your body headlong into giant pools.
This place is designed for letting your kids go crazy. Wild Rivers is
easy to find. Just take the Irvine Center Drive exit south from I-405.
It's about one half mile on your right, at the same entrance as Irvine
Meadows Amphitheater.
