Attractions,
Entertainment, and Points of Interests
HISTORY Fullerton was founded in 1887 and named for a Santa Fe
Railroad Employee who was responsible for routing the train through this area. George and
Edward Amerige bought 430 acres in the area after they heard about plans for a railway
near by. They convinced George Fullerton, President of the Pacific Land and Improvement
Company, to alter his proposed rail route to include their town. The investment turned a
mustard field into one of Orange County's largest cities. In the early days gun play was
common among the rough bunch of employees who worked the packing houses of citrus shipping
and the railroad. Fullerton was Orange County's answer to the Wild West.
To see the Historical area of Fullerton take the 91 freeway and turn north at the Harbor
Exit. When you come to the railroad overpass, you will come upon old Fullerton. Here there
are a number of antique and collectable dealers. As you leave this part of Fullerton, take
a short drive around the neighborhood north of Commonwealth Ave and West of Harbor Blvd.
This old neighborhood is unmistakable from the era of World War II--so much so that it can
take you back in time. The unmistakable early California Bungalows, old fashion street
lamps and neighborhood markets bespeak the era before complete suburbanization of the
region during the 1960's. Further west on Commonwealth, is the Fullerton Municipal
Airport--established in 1927, originally a hog farm.

Associated Road and Yorba Linda Blvd
Fullerton, CA

Hours:Daily 8am to 4:45pm
A relatively new ecological reserve of native birds and plants, the 24 acres are devided
into district climate zones. The arboretum is fairly recent, so it will take some time
before it is as lush as others in Southern California. In the middle of exotic fruit
trees, a cactus garden and a riparian zone sits a late 19th Century home. Heritage House
was built in 1894 by Dr George Clark, a physician and coroner. The family home is a fine
example of Eastlake style Victorian architecture. The surroundings, such as the garden and
the nearby outhouse, are maintained as they would have been during that era. You may tour
the house, but it is by appointment only.
