HISTORY
The farmers who settled in this area called it "Fountain Valley" because they
could dig virtually anywhere and find a water source of artesian water. The land was so
swampy, that the only significant agriculture is the rancho days was the raising of
cattle. During the mid 1800's so many evangelistic meetings were held in tents that the
area was nicknamed "Gospel Swamp." A drought in the late 1870's helped drain the
land sufficiently that it became more productive for growing crops.
