HISTORY In Rancho days, Cypress was a place used for grazing
cattle. Later in the 1890's, it became a place that produced sugar beets and sugar factory
was built that employed more than 400 people. Dairy farming was also abundant in this
region. In 1906, the Pacific Electric Line was built from Santa Ana to Watts and a stop
was put in Cypress. Eventually, much of the land was subdivided into small ranches, and
the lots were popular with oil workers, who labored in Huntington Beach or Brea. In 1956,
Cypress was incorportated as Dairy City, a tribute to the number of dairy farms in the
area. Later the residents changed the name to Cypress for reasons that have been lost with
the passage of time.
