Attractions,
Entertainment, and Points of Interests
HISTORY Buena Park (or Plaza Buena, as it was known
in the Rancho Days) was just another farming community until the Knott
family put it on the map with their berry farm. In 1920 Walter and Cordelia
Knott moved to Buena park, and gained the reputation for growing the tastiest
berries in all of Orange County. Folks came from miles around to buy berries
at their roadside stand. Then Cordelia Knott started making freshly baked
chicken and pies, and that became equally successful. By the late 1940's,
Cordelias kitchen became a popular chicken restaurant.
Walter Knott was facinated with the old west. He felt that people who visited the berry
farm may like to see a recreation of the old west. He built a structure to make it look
like an authentic frontier town. Later more buildings were added, and the replica of the
Old West became a fixture of Beach Blvd. As years past, rides were added and it became the
theme park it is today.

Andrew West Whitaker built his house in 1887 upon his arrival from Indiana. His brother
James bought 690 acres of land to establish a cattle ranch, but ended up subdividing the
property and creating the city of Buena Park. The house was sold to Issac Jaynes in 1903,
and his family resided in it till 1965. The city created this park out of the house
grounds, and it is maintained by the Buena Park Hitorical Society.
The Whitaker--Jaynes house is furnished with authentic furnishings from that time period,
including a bedroom set that belonged to Cordelia Knott.
The Bacon House, built in 1884 in the single wall style of construction. It was moved from
