Attractions,
Entertainment, and Points of Interests
HISTORY:
Founded in 1857, Anaheim, which names means "Home of the River" was originally
purchased by German Immigrants for the cost of $2 per acre. Their main interest in the
land was to cultivate it for vineyards. Until the late 19th century, Anaheim was know as
the wine capital of California. However in 1885 a terrible blight attacked the vines and
permanently destroyed the grape industry in California. After that the farmers turned to
cultivating Oranges, and this became an identifying market in this area, which is where
this County received its name.
However Anaheim's real fame came about in recent history, when in 1955 Walt Disney bought
a 160 acres to create his dream. An amusement park where families could come and through
rides and attractractions, become part of the movies. This park attracted one million
vistiors in the first 6 months, and the rest, as they say, is History.
